Aqua Security is a cloud-native security company founded in 2015 that pioneered container security. The company created Trivy, the world’s most popular open source security scanner with over 100 million annual downloads. Aqua has raised $325 million at a unicorn valuation exceeding $1 billion.

Platform Overview

The Aqua Platform provides full lifecycle security for cloud-native applications from code to cloud.

Container security protects containerized workloads across the entire lifecycle. The platform provides image scanning, runtime protection, and vulnerability management for Docker and container environments.

Kubernetes security delivers native integration for cluster protection. Aqua provides admission control, network policy enforcement, and runtime threat detection for Kubernetes environments.

Supply chain security protects the software development lifecycle. The platform secures CI/CD pipelines, generates SBOMs, and validates software provenance.

Runtime protection uses agent-based monitoring to detect and block threats in production. The platform can identify container escapes, malware, and anomalous behavior in real time.

Trivy: Open Source Security Scanner

Trivy is Aqua’s flagship open source project with over 31,000 GitHub stars. The universal scanner detects vulnerabilities, misconfigurations, secrets, SBOM, and license issues across containers, Kubernetes, code repositories, clouds, and infrastructure as code.

Trivy Premium extends the open source capabilities with enterprise features for organizations requiring additional support and integrations.

Additional Open Source Projects

Aqua maintains 219 GitHub repositories including:

kube-bench (7,900+ stars) checks Kubernetes clusters against CIS benchmarks. kube-hunter (5,000+ stars) performs penetration testing of Kubernetes clusters. Tracee (4,400+ stars) provides Linux runtime security using eBPF.
