Trellix was formed in January 2022 from the merger of McAfee Enterprise and FireEye Products, both acquired by Symphony Technology Group (STG). The company inherited McAfee’s enterprise endpoint, DLP, and email security products alongside FireEye’s network security and threat detection technology, creating a broad XDR platform under a single brand.

Products

The Trellix XDR Platform is the unifying layer that correlates threat data across endpoints, email, network, cloud, and data security products. It provides cross-domain detection, investigation, and automated response through a single console.

For endpoint security, Trellix combines signature-based detection, machine learning, behavioral analysis, and EDR. The endpoint product has a large installed base, particularly in government, financial services, and healthcare.

Email security is available for both cloud and on-premises deployments with advanced threat detection for phishing, BEC, and malware. The product line benefits from FireEye’s legacy sandboxing and URL detonation technology. Network detection and response inherited from FireEye provides detection of lateral movement, command-and-control communication, and data exfiltration.

Enterprise DLP covers endpoint, network, and cloud channels. Trellix DLP has one of the largest installed bases in the market from the McAfee DLP legacy. Security operations through Helix provides SIEM, log management, correlation, and case management.

Heritage

Trellix carries the combined legacy of two iconic security brands. McAfee Enterprise was founded in 1987 as one of the original antivirus companies, later expanding into enterprise endpoint, DLP, web security, and CASB. FireEye Products was founded in 2004 and became known for advanced threat detection, sandboxing, and the Mandiant incident response practice. Mandiant was separated and sold to Google.

Market Position

Trellix competes across multiple security markets. The company’s strength is breadth; few vendors offer endpoint, email, network, DLP, and SIEM under one platform. However, the company faces intense competition from CrowdStrike, Microsoft, and Palo Alto Networks in each individual category.
